국기원장 선거 후보자마감… 역대 최다 9명 출마!

In consideration of the convenience of overseas electors, voting and counting of votes will be conducted using the online voting system (K-Voting) from 6 am to 8 pm on Thursday, October 6th.

As a result of the ballot counting, the person who receives the most votes among the valid votes of the Electoral College is determined as the elected winner. 

The scope of the electoral college for the Kukkiwon president election is △World Taekwondo (WT) President or an executive appointed by the WT President △ KTA President or an executive appointed by the KTA President △Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (PTF) of an executive appointed by the TPF Chairmsn △ Chairpersons of Korea Taekwondo Association-affiliated city  & provincial associations △ Presidents of five continental taekwondo unions or those appointed by continental union presidents △The President of Taekwondo 9th Dan Holders Association or one nominated by the president △The President of the Korea Para Taekwondo Association or the one nominated by the president △The President of the Korean Women’s Taekwondo Association or the one executive appointed by the president (female) △ 20 people from WT member national associations in Asia, Europe, Pan America, Africa and Oceania that contributed a lot to the development of Kukkiwon △ Taekwondo instructors who are randomly selected at a rate of 10% each among those who have been reviewed and recommended in Korea (KPS) and overseas (KMS) for the past 2 years △ 1 representative among Kukkiwon staff △ 1 oveseas instructor dispatched by the Kukkiwon

Among them, the largest shares of the electoral college are taken by 840 domestic (KPS, Kukkiwon promotion system), 309 overseas (KMS, Kukkiwon membership system) members and 10% of those who recommended people for Kukkiwon Dan promotion over the past 2 years.  With the addtion of 48 people recommended by domestic and foreign Taekwondo groups, the number of electors totals 1,197.

Initially, it was expected that there will be 1,300 people, but it was reduced due to the overlapping of the electoral colleges and the abandonment of the right to recommend and the electoral college.

The nine candidates who have completed the registration of candidacy and assigned their candidate number will have a full-fledged election campaign for nine days from September 27 to October 5 according to the election schedule. Election campaigns can only be conducted by phone calls, text messages, e-mails, and business card distribution, etc. by the candidates themselves and the election clerks.

In order to strengthen the fairness of the election, it is stipulated that the electoral list issued to candidates during the candidate registration application period for the election of the president cannot be transferred or borrowed to any other than candidates, and cannot be used for any purpose other than the election.

The ‘neutrality duty’ for elections, which was limited to Kukkiwon executives and employees, was decided to be extended to the scope to those directly related and affiliated with Kukkiwon who received a letter of appointment from Kukkiwon.

The Central Election Commission said it has managed this election fairly and corrrectly in accordance with the related laws and constitution of the Kukkiwon and has actively  prevent, guideded and cracked down the the violations such as providing money and entertainment, electoral involvement by officials, etc.

It said that it is actively carrying out activities to prevent, guide, and crack down on violations, such as providing money and entertainment, and ex-employee travel committee in accordance with the relevant laws and the ariticles of of incorporation of the Kukkiwon, while operating a resident task force within Kukkiwon to prevent, guide, and crack down on violations, such as providing money and entertainment, and participating in elections by executives and employees.
